Halal Spicy Wagyu Ramen
by Gyumon Halal Ramen Asakusa, Tokyo, Japan
Gyumon Halal Ramen, located in Tokyo's Asakusa neighborhood, is a popular restaurant known for serving halal-certified wagyu beef ramen. Located a short walk from Sensō-ji Temple, the shop attracts Muslim travelers as well as ramen enthusiasts curious to try beef-based broth instead of broth made from the traditional pork.

The noodles were excellent, of course, but so were all of the sides. I was especially fond of the gyudon. The beef cutlet was served with a charcoal grill, and you could cook each piece yourself to your preferred level of doneness. It was served with a spicy and savory gyudon sauce to dip each piece in.
When you order your ramen, you can choose how spicy you want the broth to be. Now, I like spicy food, and Japan isn't necessarily known for having super spicy dishes. Still, I decided to play it safe and ordered level 2, which was what the restaurant recommended.
I'm glad I did! The beef and noodles were the perfect level of spice after soaking in the delicious, rich broth. However, even at level 2, the broth was very spicy when I had a taste of it on its own. I can't image how hot level 9 or 10 might be! If you enjoy spicy, I recommend ordering between levels 2 and 4 unless you're really up for a challenge.

The restaurant is fully halal, with no alcohol or pork products on the menu, and even includes a small prayer room. Seating is limited, so lines can form during busy hours, but staff are friendly and can speak English, making it a great meal stop for visitors exploring Asakusa.
