Nashville Hot Chicken and Waffles

As a southern from the US, I love fried chicken. I love chicken and waffles. I also really love Tennessee hot chicken. Imagine my excitement when I found a restaurant in Bangkok, Thailand of all places that combines these dishes into one amazing meal: Nashville Hot Chicken and Waffles!

We ordered level 3 out of 5 spice levels, and it's a good thing we did, because the "very hot" and "death" options (levels 4 and 5 respectively) were cooked with Carolina Reapers, the hottest peppers in the world. Level 5 (hot) was perfect. It was spicy, but not too much.
The chicken itself was juicy and tender on the inside with a crispy golden exterior. The waffles were thick and Belgian-style, but what made the entire dish complete, and what brought all of the flavors together to perfection was the house-made maple butter that was drizzled over the entire meal. Sweet, caramelized maple added a sort of extra complexity to this spicy, sweet, savory dish.
We also ordered the Arnold Palmer (sweet iced tea + lemonade) to wash it down with. Perfection!

The food at Fowlmouth is a little expensive by Thailand standards, but you definitely get what you pay for. The signature hot chicken burger is 320 baht ($10), and the hot chicken and waffles are 275 baht. Each dish comes with a side (I recommend the curly fries) and a drink (I recommend the classic Arnold Palmer!).
