The Elizabeth Hotel in Bangkok's Phaya Thai neighborhood is a classic old-school hotel whose restaurant's specialty is rad na talay, or seafood rad na, made with the restaurant's signature fried noodles topped with fried fish, shrimp, squid, mushrooms, crab, and kale in a thick gravy.

I wouldn't normally make my way out to Phaya Thai to eat at a hotel restaurant, but I was in the neighborhood and decided to stop in for an early dinner to order this iconic dish.

Most rad na I've had in Thailand was served atop a bed of soft rice noodle, but the noodles here were thicker, wider, and chewier and were fried until golden and crunchy, the noodles provide a satisfying contrast to the thick, silky gravy that was poured over them. This is what sets Elizabeth Hotel's noodles apart, and why this dish has been the hotel's signature for over 35 years!

You could tell that the dish used high-quality ingredients, and the portion was huge (especially considering the very reasonable price). I was impressed, of course, by the texture of the noodles and the thick Thai-Cantonese-style gravy, but even more so by the generous pieces of seafood that were included in the dish.

Location

The Elizabeth Hotel is located at 169 51 Pradiphat Rd, Phaya Thai, Bangkok 10400, Thailand. It's not too far from BTS Saphan Kwai, though I would recommend taking a taxi as it's a 5-minute drive or about a 15-minute walk from the station.
