Crab Noodles and Crab Cakes in Bangkok, Thailand

Crab Noodles and Crab Cakes

by Odean Restaurant in Bangkok's Chinatown

Odean, named after a traffic circle in Bangkok, is a historic restaurant renowned for its world-famous crab noodles. Bangkok is located near the coast, and the seafood in the city is some of the freshest and most delicious in the world. On a sunny morning in Bangkok's Chinatown, I stopped in at Odean to order a bowl of their incredible crab noodles and the best crab cakes that I've ever had.

These egg noodles (served dry) were topped with an impressive amount of sweet, fresh crab meat and garnished with green onions and deep-fried garlic. The bowl of noodles also came served with deliciously tender prawn dumplings.

When you order noodles in Thailand, you can order them "wet" or "dry", which means that you can order them with or without broth. Generally, I prefer dry noodles. When you order dry noodles, though, they usually serve a small bowl of delicious broth on the side. Somehow, I think that makes the dish even tastier.

My favorite thing that we ordered, however, were the deep-fried crab cakes! The crab cakes were served with a sweet Chinese-style honey sauce which balanced the herbs and crab meat perfectly.

I am crazy about these crab cakes (called crab cake meatballs on the menu). I'm not joking when I say that these are the tastiest crab cakes that I've ever had! They are a little expensive by street food standards, but I found it completely worth the price. Overall, Odean is a little more expensive than most street food shops nearby, but it has definitely earned its reputation.

If you are looking for something extra special, order Odean's famous crab claw noodles, which I wrote about in another post:
