Hoy Tod Talay, or Seafood Fried Oyster Omelette

Hoy Tod Talay

in Bang Krajao, Thailand (The "Green Lung" of Bangkok)

Bang Krajao, known as the "Green Lung of Bangkok", is an artificial island made out of a wide bend in the Chaophraya River just south of Bangkok, Thailand. It's a mostly undeveloped area that is legally protected from the urbanization that has spread through the rest of Bangkok. You can rent a bicycle, visit a traditional floating market, and generally get away from the city and into the fresh air without having to go far away from Bangkok.

The other day I took a short trip to the Green Lung, and ordered a delicious and impressively cheap plate of hoy tod talay, or crispy oyster omelette topped with seafood.

The dish cost just 50 baht, and came with lots more seafood than I was expecting! They didn't shy away from stuffing the omelette with lots of oysters, either! The dish had a couple of big, fat shrimp, several squid rings, and a few pieces of grilled squid tentacle. Super delicious if you are a fan of seafood (I am!).

The seafood itself tasted super fresh, and the squid meat was sweet and not at all rubbery, meaning that it had been cooked perfectly.

The omelette was nice and crispy - sometimes with hoy tod it can be a bit under-cooked, but this one was excellent.

Highly recommended for lunch before setting out on a bicycle to explore the Green Lung!

Location
I found this hoy tod at a small local restaurant just off of the pier from Bang Na to Bang Krajao (near HERE). The restaurant is not on the map, but you can find it just past the bike rental shops on the main road along the canal.
