New York-Style Pepperoni Pizza with Hot Honey
by Little Italy Pizza, New York City, New York, USA
When I was in New York City, I was on the lookout for good New York-style pizza. There are literally thousands upon thousands of pizza places in NYC, and it's hard to go wrong with picking any spot for an iconic New York Slice.
Little Italy Pizza is a family-owned pizzeria in New York City known for its Southern Italian pizza recipes. It began with the owner's grandmother's family recipe, a thin-crust pizza made with fresh tomatoes and a light layer of cheese.
The chain of fast-food pizzerias is found throughout New York, and I stopped in at one to order two slices of pepperoni pizza from their large number of offerings. I figure that you can't go wrong by ordering the classic. I paid an extra dollar to get a drizzle of hot honey added on top of each pizza slice.
Hot honey is a condiment made from an infusion of spicy chili in honey. It adds a sweet and spicy complexity to whatever it's added to, and it went so well with the salty cheese, meaty pepperoni sausage, and thin-crust bread of the pizza. The hot honey pooled inside the crispy little cups created by the crinkling baked pepperoni and truly enhanced the entire meal.
I was so tired that day, but the late-night meal really cheered me up. Sometimes, all you need is a good slice of pizza.
