Pecan Praline French Toast: seasonal holiday brunch for a good cause in Waco, Texas

Pecan Praline French Toast (special holiday menu)

by World Cup Cafe and Fair Trade Market, Waco, Texas

Here at The World of Street Food, we are all about breakfast and brunch! Breakfast foods are my favorites, and I love highlighting truly special breakfasts wherever I go in the world.

Once a year, around Christmastime, the World Cup Cafe and Fair Trade Market in Waco, Texas releases their special holiday brunch menu featuring one of my all-time favorite indulgent brunch dishes: pecan praline French toast!

The French toast is thick and perfectly cooked, with a crispy outside and soft interior (never soggy!). The pieces of toast are topped with whipped cream, Texas pecans, and spiced praline syrup that contains all the flavors you expect around Christmastime such as cinnamon and nutmeg.

It's a delightful sweet treat that you can only find around this time of year!

If it's not Christmas, my go-to order is the World Cup Express, which is World Cup Cafe's signature diner-style breakfast. It consists of all the best breakfast classics: two eggs cooked to order, bacon or sausage, hot coffee, and your choice of French toast, pancakes, or biscuits and gravy.

I recommend the bacon, which comes out thick and super crispy - just the way I like it. I also highly recommend the biscuits and gravy. You have the option between classic southern-style white gravy and pork gravy. I opted for the pork gravy.

The dish comes with four huge buttermilk biscuits covered in thick, rich, creamy gravy and topped with an entire crumbled-up breakfast pork sausage patty. It's one of the most filling things I've ever had, and I loved every bite.

Honestly, the biscuits and gravy alone could have been enough to satisfy me, but I'll never say no to bacon and eggs!

The World Cup Cafe doesn't just have great food and coffee. It's also a part of something much bigger. World Cup Cafe is also home to a fair trade market selling certified fair trade coffee, home goods, decorations and more from all around the world. In addition, the cafe is affiliated with Mission Waco, an organization that works to fight poverty and empower lower-income people in the greater Waco area.

So, while you are enjoying your delicious brunch, you can feel good knowing that a portion of the proceeds are going directly towards making the world a better place.
