Founded in 2006 in Singapore, Pralet is a family run deli and cafe famous for their square-shaped sourdough donuts. They recently opened a branch in Bangkok, Thailand's Ekkamai neighborhood that offers, in addition to their delicious classics, a few uniquely Thai savory donut flavors.

Every donut is made with Pralet's signature 16-year-old sourdough starter, which gives them their perfect flavor and iconic fluffy texture.

You won't find any plain glazed donuts here! Pralet is known for their unique flavors, from their signature burnt butter honey donut to donuts flavored with coconut, matcha, and pistachio with raspberry.

Pralet offers two unique Thai signature donuts, one topped with chicken floss and one with crispy fish. The combinations of savory toppings on sweet donuts sounds strange, but that was what I was here to try! I ordered the "OG Catfish", a sourdough donut topped with crispy dried catfish, shrimp flakes, kaffir lime, and shio kombu (salted kelp) aioli and flavored with nam prik, or Thai chili paste. The donut itself wasn't overly sweet, which helped keep the flavors balanced.

I couldn't visit Pralet without trying their signature burnt butter honey glazed donut. Before boxing it up, the staff finished it off with a sprinkle of sea salt.

To be honest, I very much preferred the sweet donut to the fishy one, but that might just be due to my Western palate and sweet tooth.

I'd really love to try the pistachio and raspberry donut, so next time I find myself in Ekkamai neighborhood, I just may be stopping by again.
