It was evening in Da Lat, a beautiful mountain resort town in southern Vietnam, which meant that it was time to find something delicious to eat for dinner.

We were the only tourists standing in the queue to eat at Tráng Nướng Dì Đinh, a tiny local streetside restaurant serving Banh Trang Nuong, or "Da Lat Pizza". The rest were locals, which meant the food had to be good!

We squeezed into a spot on a tiny plastic table on even tinier plastic stools, and the waiter came to take our order. The shop does have an English menu, but they were not able to find it when we ate there, so we just used the old "use Google Translate and point at what you want" strategy. And it worked!

Basically, if you want a Da Lat Pizza with everything on it, just go for the special. There are two options, one with quail eggs cracked on top, and one with the eggs scrambled into the toppings. I chose the former.

Bánh Tráng Nướng is one of Đà Lạt’s signature street foods. A thin sheet of rice paper is grilled directly over charcoal until it becomes crisp and lightly browned, then is topped with scallions, shredded beef jerky, tiny quail eggs, and cheese.

We were given a pair of scissors with which to cut our "pizzas" into eighths, which we then ate by the slice like a typical pizza (albeit with an extraordinarily thin crispy crust).

 Crisp, crunchy, savory, and delicious, this was one of the best meals that I had during my two-week trip to Vietnam!

Menu and Prices

The "special" pizza, which comes with all of the toppings, costs just 30,000 VND, or just over a dollar.

The restaurant does have an English menu, but they were not able to find it when I arrived. Instead, I just used Google Translate, which worked well enough.

Location

Bánh Tráng Nướng Dì Đinh is located at 26 Đ. Hoàng Diệu, Cam Ly - Đà Lạt, Lâm Đồng, Vietnam. Expect a wait, especially during meal rush, but the queue moves fast and you shouldn't have to stand in line for too long before being seated at one of the tiny plastic tables.

While you are waiting, the line will pass the open-air kitchen where you can watch a line of workers assembling the rice paper pizzas, grilling them over hot coals, and sending them out to be served.
