Delicious Vegetarian Bánh Khoái in the Imperial City of Hue,

Vegetarian Banh Khoai or Banh Khoai Chay 

I have had so much amazing food in Hue. I would even say that Hue has had the best dishes that I've had during my entire time in Vietnam so far. On my very last day, I need to have more Banh Khoai (my favorite dish in Hue), so I stopped in at a little  shop not so far from where I stayed, close to the gate of the Imperial City.

I had lunch at Lac Thanh restaurant, where the friendly owner was waving at us from the front of his shop.

The owner started to cook the banh khoai right in front of us. I was curious to see how he made it on this little stove, and he was willing to let me watch how he cooked this amazing dish for us.


I got to see the delicious banh khoai sizzling on the stove. Then, it's time to eat!

Once the food was served, the owner taught us how to eat the dish properly by cracking the crispy pancake into bite-sized pieces, then adding some sauce and veggies into a bowl, and mixing it all together in one bite.

I'm impressed by how friendly Mr. Lac was! Although he didn't speak English to us, there was no miscommunication at all. We "spoke" through hilariously exaggerated charades. He is such a character with a happy smile!  

The most friendly restaurant owner at Lac Thanh, Hue

The restaurant is located in front of the gate. The shop is clean, and the food is reasonably priced.
