World-Famous Dungeness Crab Benedict
by Lowell's Restaurant, Pike Place Market, Seattle, Washington, USA
When you're in America's Pacific Northwest, seafood is a must, and on my first morning in the Seattle, I knew exactly where I was headed for breakfast: the iconic Lowell’s Restaurant.
Lowell's, which first opened its doors in 1957, is located inside Pike Place Market and takes up three stories overlooking Elliot Bay with a bar on the top floor. I arrived at 9am just as they were opening and got a seat by the window where I could enjoy a cup of hot coffee while waiting for my breakfast to arrive.
I had ordered Lowell's most legendary and decadent breakfast dish, their famous Dungeness crab benedict.

The dish started with a large slice of toasted sourdough bread, a specialty of the US west coast. The sourdough was topped with a heap of sweet, juicy Dungeness crab meat, caught fresh just outside in nearby Puget Sound.
Two wo runny-yolk poached eggs sat on top of the crab, covered in Lowell's house-made hollandaise sauce. The breakfast also came with a gigantic serving of amazingly crispy hash browns which took up nearly half of the plate.
For my first meal in Seattle, I don't think I could have chosen anything better!

It's easy to find due to its large shopfront. There is seating on two levels with excellent views of Puget Sound.
My wife and I arrived at the market around 8:30am and spent half an hour browsing the shops and stalls before heading to Lowell's when they opened at 9. We were first in line, although a small crowd had started to form behind us by the time the restaurant opened. I recommend arriving early so that you don't have to wait for so long,
