Traveling throughout Asia gives me opportunity to try as much new food as I can. As I walked down the main road in Vang Vieng looking for some noodles to eat, I was excited to find this tiny local restaurant.

They didn't have an English menu, so I just ordered a bowl of soup, excited to see what I would get. After traveling in Vietnam for three months, I really started to fall in love with the Vietnamese food, and I got so excited to see that the soup that was served was a Vietnamese-style noodle soup! It really shows me how close some of the cuisine in Vietnam and Laos are.

They gave a very fair portion of hot noodle soup for the price. The broth is very tasty, savory, and full of pepper and dried onions. The noodles are very soft and chewy. I wouldn't say it's like pho, it's definitely something different and unique to Laos, but it does remind me of some of the amazing soups that I had in Vietnam.

The bowl was stuffed full with lots and lots of chicken. The chicken meat was a little bit sticky - I could tell that it was "household chicken", which means chicken that runs around outside rather than being raised on a farm. It's more ethical for sure, but the meat from household chicken is a bit tougher.

They also sold other dishes as well. I highly recommend their rice porridge, or "jok", which costs only 5.000 kip and is a very very tasty way to start the day. The shop is very easy to get to on the main road of Vang Vieng. It's very local and can be crowded in the morning, but it's nice and clean.
