Although typically served as a side dish alongside tom yum soup (Tom Yum Kung, or Thai spicy and sour soup by Pe Aor), fried mushrooms with sweet chili sauce can stand alone as a tasty yet filling snack.

This light and (relatively) healthy snack is made from battered and lightly fried mushrooms, and served with a sweet Thai chili dipping sauce. The mushrooms themselves are small, chewy, and thick, and lightly coated in a sweet and thin fried batter. The sauce is a typical Thai-style sweet chili dipping sauce, which perfectly complements the earthy and bready flavors of the fried mushrooms.

Location

Pe Aor Restaurant is located at 68, 51 Phetchaburi Rd, Thung Phaya Thai, Ratchathewi, Bangkok 10400. It's a short walk from BTS Siam Station.

The restaurant is fairly easy to find, but you have to walk down a narrow street to get there. Watch out for cars and motorbikes! It's a nice shop, very clean, and decorated in an eclectic mix of vintage toys and Buddhist artifacts. We arrived in late afternoon, between the lunch and dinner rush, and it was not too crowded.
